Culture In Chicago

I'm here in Chicago and it's FREEZING cold. Almost to the point where it's "too cold to go to the mall". So Drew and I are trying to find things to do that are indoors and require us to stay indoors for quite some time. So we quickly ventured off to the Chicago Cultural Center where they had 3 exhibits that we checked out:

1. Fresh From Julieanne's Garden: Sculpture by Preston Jackson

2. Los Carpinteros: Inventing the World / Inventar el mundo

3. Situation Comedy: Humor in Recent Art

Julieanne's Garden was filled with sculptures made of bronze depicting his Southern Illinois roots, and the Los Carpinteros exhibit was filled with art made by Cuban artists that playfully mixed carpentry and art.

The 3rd exhibit was filled with art that injected humor into them. There were 3 examples that stood out for me. There was a video monitor where a woman dressed in a cheerleader's outfit and adorned with gold jewellwery lip syncing the noises of a car alarm. There was a stage created with a mic, monitors and seating for a crowd where anyone could go up, reading jokes from a prompter and get a pre recorded drum joke ender (not sure what it's called). The 3rd example was another video monitor where Michael Jackson's "Working Day and Night" played and a set of breasts jiggled and swayed to the music. Gives new meaning to the term "Boob tube". (insert drum crash here).

"Rim shot" is the name for the corny "that was a joke" drum thingy.
Knew that knowledge was going to be useful sometime...
