Attack Of The Sick Kids

At work we are allowed to listen to the radio through the phone network. The only condition is that it's on an EZ Rock station. It's not too bad but it can tend to get a bit monotonous. Sometimes you crave some change. I don't complain as I don't mind the music as background noise as our office is really quiet being so small and no real chatty cathys.

The past 3 days have been a nightmare as they have their annual Sick Kids Radiothon. Sick Kids is a hospital that specializes in children's health care. It is an amazing hospital and I'm all for supporting the hospital but the Radiothon has the hosts blubbering every 5 minutes over stories of success stories as well as not so successful stories. Then to top it off they only play 1 or 2 full songs but the rest are really heartbreaking songs mixed in with sob stories. Now usually I'm a softie and if I was at home listening to it I'd be blubbering along with them but it's not the best idea to be blubbering at work and getting snot all over the desk. And 3 days? Good lord it's enough to make me call and donate just to get them off the air.

Honestly I hope that Sick Kids raises a lot of funds as they deserve it (they've also recently released a lottery for Sick Kids that is all the trend with all the other hospitals) but they don't need to shove a kid who is going through chemotherapy reading the telephone number as that's all they have the strength to say.

Maybe I should be one of the poor souls they showcase on the radiothon for listening to them for 3 days.

Ok that just sucks... usually I listen to CFRA in the car + they're doing the same thing... suddenly I've discovered other channels on the dial... screw the sick kids... ok I'm kidding... but I totally see what you're saying... the other day they told this totally heartbreaking story + my eyes started watering... not the best when you're driving in morning rush hour traffic... NEways... money makes the world go round I guess.

And I thought it was bad when US public broadcasting would hold Big Bird hostage for donations...
